Graduate
Graduate students who have an assigned faculty advisor should contact that faculty member or the appropriate department secretary for an appointment.
Please go to the link on your left titled "Advising Services" to determine where you should seek advising.
It is up to each student to make sure any holds are taken care of prior to registration. However, if you have any questions/concerns and would like to be advised in the office of student and alumni affairs you have the following three options:
Option 1: Email Advising
Students must submit their email requests to phadvise@fiu.edu. You are encouraged to submit your request as soon as possible. Please carefully follow the instructions and procedures below if you are requesting this form of advising:
-
Respecting your right to privacy, only email requests from your university assigned FIU email addresses will be acknowledged. No other e-mails will be accepted or responded to.
-
Check your unofficial transcripts and track sheet requirements carefully prior to completing request. If discrepancies exist between the courses you want to take and the courses you should/can take, you may be required to resubmit your request.
-
It is your responsibility to determine ahead of time if the courses selected have any prerequisites and whether you have completely fulfilled them. It is also your responsibility to make sure the sequence of courses followed relate to your timeline for graduation.
-
In the “subject” area of the email, please type the following in ALL CAPS: REQUEST FOR ADVISEMENT for XXX TERM.
-
Start the body of the email with your full name (first, then last), Panther ID, and academic subplan/track.
-
Then list each course by complete course number and title (ex: PHC 6000 Introduction to Public Health Epidemiology) with alternates if not available.
-
Any questions regarding your academic career may also be asked in the body of the e-mail after step 5 and 6 are complete.
-
A representative from the Office of Student and Alumni Affairs will review your request and send a response to your FIU email address, informing you that your hold will be released, and clarifying any discrepancies.
Option 2 Phone Advising
Call 305-348-7777 to schedule a phone advisement appointment.
-
A representative from the Office of Student and Alumni Affairs will call the student at the scheduled time at the number provided by the student.
-
For privacy reasons, the phone number that is given by the student must match one of the phone numbers in the FIU panthersoft system. The individual taking down the appointment will check if the number given by the student is in panthersoft. If the number you are providing needs to be updated in the system or is not found in the system the following are the steps on how to change your phone number.
Instructions on changing you number on panthersoft.
-
Log in to Panthersoft
-
Click on “personal portfolio”

-
The student must check his/her unofficial transcripts and track sheet requirements carefully prior to completing request.
-
It is your responsibility to determine ahead of time if the courses selected have any prerequisites and whether you have completely fulfilled them. It is also your responsibility to make sure the sequence of courses followed relate to your timeline for graduation.
-
Please be prepared with course selection and alternatives.
Option 3: One-on-One Advising
Please do not schedule an appointment if you are submitting a request for email or phone advising.
-
Before your advising session, please review the unofficial transcript and track sheet requirements carefully prior to completing request.
-
