ACADEMIC PROGRAMS > MSW ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

 

Applicants must make application to both the University Graduate School and School of Social Work and are responsible for making sure that all required documents are on file at the University and the School of Social Work.

 

Application deadlines:
Two-Year MSW Program (Full or Part-Time)
                For Admission in the Fall Semester: June 1
                For Admission in the Spring Semester: October 1

 

Advanced Standing Program (Full or Part-Time)
                For Admission in the Fall Semester: June 1
                For Admission in the Spring Semester: October 1
                For Admission in the Summer Session: February 1

 

Admission Requirements

 

Applicants to the MSW Program should have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, with a grade point average of 3.0 or above in upper-division courses. In addition, students should have completed certain prerequisite courses in their undergraduate programs.

 

Prerequisite Courses:

 

1. Human Biology – a biology course with human content (at least 3 semester hours) such as:

 

Florida Community Colleges and Universities:
                APB/BSC 1005 - General Biology
                BSC 1085 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I
                BSC 2085 - Human Anatomy and Physiology II
Florida International University (FIU):
                PCB 2700 - Foundations of Human Physiology
                BSC 2023- Human Biology
                BSC 1010- General Biology

 

2. Statistics – a basic course in statistical methods (at least 3 semester hours) such as:

 

Florida Community Colleges and Universities:
                STA 2023 – Statistical Methods
                STA 2122 - Statistical Methods for the Behavioral and Social Sciences
Florida International University:
                STA 1013 -Statistics for Social Services
                STA 2122 - Intro to Statistics
                (please refer to University catalog)

 

3. Social Science – 12 semester hours in any of the social and behavioral sciences such as:

                Psychology
                Sociology
                Anthropology
                Economics
                Political Science

 

TEST INFORMATION:

 

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is no longer required for admission to the MSW Program. However, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for international applicants, unless they hold a degree from an English-speaking university (see the University catalog).
