Students applying to the BSSW program must be admitted as undergraduate students to Florida International University. Prior to admission to the BSSW Program, applicants should have completed the Associate in Arts degree at a Florida community college or 60 hours at an accredited institution. The following prerequisites must be met prior to admission to the BSSW Program:
- Completion of the University Core Curriculum (UCC) or completion of the General Education requirements at any institution in the State University System of Florida or graduation from a Florida public community college with an Associate in Arts degree. - A passing score on the CLAST Examination, exemption, or waiver. (

- 8-10 Credits of a Foreign Language.
- A minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.5
One Course in each of the Following:
- Statistics - STA 1013 or STA 2122 or other Statistics course.
- Biology with Human Content - BSC 1010 or BSC 2023 or other Biology course with human content.
- Psychology - PSY 2020 or DEP 2000 or other Psychology course.
- American Government - POS 2042 or POS 2041.
- Economics - ECO 2013 or ECO 2023.
- Sociology - SYG 2000 or SYG 2010 or other Sociology course.
