PATHS OF PUBLIC HEALTH AWARDS -February 18, 2008




The Paths of Public Health Awards was established to recognize individuals and organizations in public health for their contributions and commitment to promoting and protecting the health of the South Florida community.  The awards also serve to raise the community’s awareness and understanding of the contributions made by public health professionals. The first annual Paths of Public Health Awards was

held on September, 2006.


PURPOSE:

Florida International University’s Robert Stempel School of Public Health is committed to recognizing outstanding South Floridians who are working to improve and maintain the health of the community.  The awards are intended to recognize community contributions and achievements of the recipients.  Honorees will receive awards based upon their impact in improving the health of the public.

 

The awards categories are Health Policy & Management, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, Epidemiology and Infectious Disease, Environmental and Occupational Health, Community Nutrition, and the Robert Stempel Award.



ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  • A Florida resident and works in Palm Beach, Broward, Miami-Dade or Monroe Counties

  • Made outstanding and sustained contributions on behalf of community

  • At least 5 years experience/service

CATEGORIES:

  1. Epidemiology/ Data Analysis/ Infectious Disease
  2. Health Promotion/Disease Prevention (2 awards)

               1) A community outreach worker, and
               2) an organization or individual

  1. Environmental & Occupational Health (2 awards)

            1) A first responder, such as a firefighter, police officer, or EMT, and
            2) Environmental & Occupational worker

  1. Health Policy and Management
  2. Community Nutrition
  3. Robert Stempel Award

The winners will be selected with the assistance of the Awards Selection Committee.
