Learning Objectives of the Master of Public Health Online General Program
Upon completion of the MPH Generalist Online Degree, the graduate will be able to:

  • Demonstrate competency in the three core functional areas of public health practice: assessment, policy development, and assurance.
  • Demonstrate a broad knowledge and understanding of statistical techniques used in public health studies and investigations;
  • Contribute to investigation of the distribution of diseases, disease outbreaks, epidemics and health conditions in the population, and factors determining the distribution;
  • Recommend technical and behavioral interventions to reduce environmental risk and explain their strengths and weaknesses for environmental management;
  • Review and summarize the legal and regulatory program requirements of major public health and environmental statutes;
  • Describe the history, dynamics, functions and limitations of the health care delivery system and its relationship to public health problems; and
  • Recommend behavioral or health promotion interventions following evidence-based and standard practices.

In addition to these objectives, each student will write two additional competency-based program objectives to provide a direction/focus to their degree program to assist in the selection of elective courses. For example, students who are interested in worksite wellness would want to take PHC6589 and PHC6111, plan their field experience in a hospital wellness program, and write the following objectives:

  • Identify successful worksite health promotion programs in South Florida;
  • Compare health promotion programs in hospitals with health promotion programs for populations.
