Health Services Administration Undergraduate and Graduate Teams Win 1st Place


FIU’s Department of Health Policy and Management health services administration undergraduate and graduate teams win 1st place in the 3rd annual South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum’s student case competition!
The undergraduate team members were Rachel Alemán and Chinua Alleyne. The graduate team members were Esther Thomasos, Lourdes Gayo and Jennie Nimmo. They were supported by a number of their peers - Afirah Hussain, Stella Jalon, Cristina Marina, Anthony Amabile, Erick Natera, Jackie Miyasato, Elena Katz, Yelaine Hernandez, Nancy Nycum, Shandi Brito, Jessica Brazis, and others.
On Saturday March 14th teams from various universities presented their recommendations for an assigned healthcare ethics/compliance case to a panel of judges – Steve Klein, Senior Vice President Jackson Health System, James Thaw, CEO Broward General Medical Center and Heather Rohan, CEO Aventura Hospital and Medical Center. The other universities participating were Barry University and St. Thomas University. The case competition, held at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center, was sponsored by the South Florida Healthcare Executive Forum, the independent chapter of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
The announcement of their 1st place wins was made on March 19th at the Forum’s 3rd Annual Student Education and Networking Conference which was held at Memorial Hospital Miramar (MHM). The keynote speaker was Aurelio Fernandez, CEO for Memorial Hospital Miramar and a FIU BHSA and MHSA alumni. Over 125 individuals attended Mr. Fernandez’s presentation “Needed Competencies for Today’s Healthcare Managers.” |
