FIU CPHSW Welcomes CDC Director

The Florida International University (FIU) Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work welcomed the director of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), Dr. Thomas R. Frieden, on Thursday, July 30. As part of his visit to the Miami-Dade County Health Department, Dr. Lillian R. Rivera, administrator of the Miami-Dade County Health Department, shared the agenda with their FIU partners.
Interim provost Dr. Douglas Wartzok welcomed Dr. Frieden, along with the College of Medicine and School of Nursing & Health Sciences to FIU and the RSCPHW.
Dr. Rivera said, "Dr. Frieden was very impressed with the integrated collaboration of a public university with a local health department. He found the programs at FIU in the areas of research to be noteworthy and the range of work that this local university has undertaken to be progressive in its nature."
Further commenting on the planned co-location of the Health Department and Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social, Dr. Rivera noted, "Dr. Frieden appreciates the foresight of Florida International University and Miami-Dade County Health Department in their vision for the future of public health."
